(12.21) Well, that's it, I'll be on vacation until the new year, so here closes 2007, which has been a fantastic year for metal. Thanks for all your support, and please remember to vote in the albums of 2007 poll, we'll reveal the results first thing next year.
(12.21) Exhale have finished recording 10 songs. They're not sure in what form or when they will be released next year.
(12.21) Ozzy Osbourne has sold over 500,000 copies of his new cd "Black Rain".

(12.20) Mnemic guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie had this to say about the band's 2008 plans: "At the moment we are back home with our families enjoying the time off and recharging our batteries. Furthermore, we will spend the next 12-months writing and composing a new album, which should redefine our sound and hopefully stand out to be the best Mnemic album we have ever done.
(12.19) Negativa has added new female vocalist, Roxanne Constantin, who has worked with Quo Vadis and Augury, to the group. She expects to record with them next year.

(12.19) Coldworker are now in the studio recording their new album. They will record 14 new songs + a cover of "Necromancer" by Sepultura for the Japanese release.
(12.17) Neuraxis has signed with Prosthetic Records. The band will tentatively release its Prosthetic debut in mid-2008.
(12.17) Misery Index has posted a new track, 'The Color of Blood', on their MySpace page. The comes off the group's split EP with Mumakil, which was recently released through Power It Up! Records.
(12.17) Skinlab have posted the album version of a brand new song entitled 'Face of Aggression' on their MySpace page. The band had this to say: "Originally we planned on releasing a digital EP, 'Digikill'. After much thought and discussions with the label, we decided to pull the plug on the EP and focus on writting for the remainder of 2007. With this being said, we are releasing 'Face of Aggression' as a holiday gift to you."

(12.15) In more "rare old-school Montreal metal" news, I recently found the myspace of a band called Fourth Dimension. They only released one Demo back in 1995, but it's pretty groovy experimental metal with synth guitar and crunchy riffs. Myspace members can download mp3s of their rare demo (and non members can still listen to the music). Check it out here.
(12.14) A new record label has started up called Disconcert Music, and one of their first releases is an old Montreal band Agony. I remember seeing the band for the first time back in 1994, when they opened for Bolt Thrower. The label will release their first album and original demo for the first time on CD (previously, they were only available on cassette tape). For more info, go here. I highly recommend picking up this album, their classic 'Death by Suffocation In a Vagina' is especially fun.
(12.14) Koldborn is writing material for a new album, which they hope to record and release early next year.
(12.14) Blood Has Been Shed are getting back into the groove, and may start writing some new songs for a new album in the near future.
(12.14) Death's 1995 album "Symbolic" will be reissued in March 2008 via Roadrunner Records. The remastered LP will include the original album tracks plus a cover of KISS' "God of Thunder" (previously available as a Japanese bonus track and on the "At Death's Door II" compilation) and several previously unreleased, ultra-rare, mostly instrumental demo recordings that were completed in early 1994 with the lineup of Chuck Schuldiner (guitar), Gene Hoglan (drums) and Steve DiGiorgio (bass).The album has sold just under 50,000 copies in the United States in the 12 years since its release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
(12.14) The Day Everything Became Nothing has finished recording their new album.
(12.14) Exmortem are in the studio working on their new album, all the guitars and drums are recorded, leaving the bass, solos and vocals.
(12.14) The new 7th Nemesis album has been fully recorded, and is currently being mixed.
(12.14) The new Deranged album "The Red Light Murder Case" will be out Feb 18th 2008 on Regain Records.
(12.13) First thing next year, Slayer plans to start working on new material for their eleventh studio album, which should be out sometime in 2008.

(12.11) Anthrax has now officially confirmed that Dan Nelson (Devilsize, Me, My Enemy) will do the vocals for their new album. Go here to listen to a sample of his vocals.
(12.11) Roadrunner Records will release a best of Suffocation album on January 29, 2008. The album is called "Best Of Suffocation" (of course). But I highly recommend picking up all their albums instead, since the band has more best of than a single album could possibly hold.
(12.10) Here's the songs nominated for a "Best Metal Performance" Grammy: As I Lay Dying - "Nothing Left", King Diamond - "Never Ending Hill", Machine Head - "Aesthetics Of Hate", Shadows Fall - "Redemption", Slayer - "Final Six".
(12.09) Testament will release their new album, "The Formation of Damnation", in North America on April 29, 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.
(12.09) Unearth will release their as-yet-untitled new DVD on March 4 via Metal Blade. The two-disc DVD set will feature the band's October 9, 2007 concert at the Glass House in Pomona, California along with other live performances shot throughout the band's nine-year career, as well as interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and other random happenings throughout the years.

(12.07) The new Amagortis full length CD entitled "Pre-natal Cannibalism" will be released on Dec 29th 2007 through Fastbeast records.
(12.07) Oath To Vanquish will record a new EP in early 2008 called "In Dire Consequence". They hope to release it in April.

(12.06) Textures have started recording their new album, and expect to be done end of January.
(12.06) Gene Hoglan apologizes for the instructional DVD not coming out yet, but as he explains, he's been kinda busy recently.
(12.06) Drummer Steve Wheeler has left Zimmer's Hole. Gene Hoglan will be filling in. Their new album should be ready in March.
(12.05) Cryptopsy have announced the addition of singer Matt McGachy (3 Mile Scream) and keyboardist/samplist Maggie Durand (Howling Syn) to the group's ranks. The band will enter the studio mid-December to begin recording its sixth album for an early 2008 release. (12.05) The new Hate Eternal album will be called "Fury and Flames" and will be out Feb 19th.

(12.04) Otep recently found out that she has a polyp on her left vocal cord. This is quite common for singers, and it looks like the polyp is reducing in size by itself, but if it doesn't disappear, surgery may be necessary. The band's new album sold 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 81 on The Billboard 200 chart.
(12.03) Arsonists Get All The Girls Bassist Pat Mason died in his sleep on Nov 30th. The cause of death is currently unknown. The band will continue on.

(11.30) Meshuggah's new album will be out in Germany on March 7, 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records with the U.S. release likely on March 11. The album will contain nine songs and will have a running time of around 55 minutes.

(11.29) Some details on the new Tool DVD coming out Dec 18th: "the disc will contain the title video — which was for the first single from the band's 2006 album, "10,000 Days" — along with "a tour that takes you through the history of [TOOL guitarist] Adam Jones' visual effects work, and the process and people involved in the creation of the groundbreaking, all-CGI video 'Vicarious', as well as a tour of Alex Grey's CoSM." The audio commentary on the video was done by comedian David Cross."
(11.28) In a recent interview with TripleJ radio, Devolved drummer John Sankey has said the band has spent the last year or so writing music for their new album, and expect to start recording it early next year.

(11.23) An update on Decapitated vocalist Covan's current condition: "Covan had an operation earlier this week, and his current condition is described by doctors as 'very serious, but stable.' He will remain in the hospital in Kraków [Poland], and visits from anyone other than family is still strictly prohibited at this time. We appreciate everyone's understanding and support on this matter and will continue to update any changes when they happen."

(11.20) Resurrection will begin pre-production on a new album in January and will enter the studio in February to start the recording process. It should be out end of April 2008 via Massacre Records in Europe and a through a not yet named label for the rest of the world.

(11.20) Rob Zombie's live album sold 15,000 copies during its first week to debut at #57 on the Billboard top 200. Planned for 2008 is a new LP, The DVD companion to the live album, and a White Zombie boxset.

(11.09) Nuclear Blast Records will collect donations from people around the world to help the families of Decapitated drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka and singer Adrian "Covan" Kowanek. As you probably know, Vitek was killed a few days ago when their tourbus was hit by a truck. He leaves behind a wife and child. Covan is in serious but stable condition. To donate, vist here.
(11.09) Satariel's new album will be called "White Ink". Says the band: "[The CD] will continue in the sound of [the band's mini-CD] 'Chifra', which was released earlier this year, but probably will have a little more aggressivity and 'evil' added to it this time, as the lyrics pretty much demand that this time around." I hope they add a lot more evil, since I enjoyed their first 2 evil albums a lot more than their third album's more melodic nature.
(11.09) Hate's new album should be out this January.
(11.09) KillZone Records will re-release the debut album from Devolved, entitled "Technologies", at the end of November. The U.S version of the CD will feature revamped artwork and bonus video footage, including the clip for "Distorted". It will also contain two brand new tracks mixed by legendary producer Neil Kernon (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Nile). The new tracks are called 'Virus' and 'From The Ashes'.
(11.09) Prong's "Power of the Damager" has sold 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release.
(11.07) Some news on Covan, vocalist for Decapitated, who was recently injured in a bus crash that took the life of their drummer (Vitek). "Covan is currently at a hospital in Kraków, Poland. Doctors describe his condition as stable and he is showing signs of improvement every day. At this time, visiting is prohibited except to family members due to his fragile state. In the coming days, the decision on his follow-up treatment will be made."

(11.02) Witold 'Vitek' Kieltyka, drummer for Decapitated, died today of head injuries sustained after a bad van accident while on tour in Russia. He was 23. He leaves behind a wife and child. RIP dude, thanks for the fantastic drumming over the years, you will be sorely missed.

(11.02) Blabbermouth has a report on Decapitated from one of Covan's family members about the recent bus accident: "Covan and Vitek are still at the hospital in Novozybkov, Russia, where they were taken to following the accident. Despite the rumors, they are not in Moscow. Their families are currently trying to decide the best possible city and hospital to take them to next for additional medical attention. Covan is showing some progress, but unfortunately, there have been no signs of improvement on Vitek's condition. The families of Covan and Vitek appreciate everyone's concern on the matter, but please do not spread any more unconfirmed rumors or information on the Internet. More details will soon be released."

Oct 2007

(10.31) Two members of Decapitated have been seriously injured in a road accident involving their tour bus and a truck carrying wood in Gomel, on the Russia/Belarus border. Vocalist Covan and drummer Vitek sustained serious head injuries as a result of the accident, and are in Moscow receiving emergency treatment. On a personal note, Decapitated has become one of my personal favorite death metal bands, and the thought of anything serious happening to either of these two is just too horrible to comprehend. I wish both of you guys a speedy and complete recovery, get well soon!
(10.31) Exmortem have signed with Mighty Music. Their new album should be out summer 2008.
(10.31) Satariel have announced the addition of guitarist Simon Johansson to the group's ranks. He did some guest guitar solos for the band's 3rd album.
(10.31) Steev Esquivel of Skinlab reports the band is almost finished mixing the new album. And he confirms that the Live CD and DVD should be out early next year.

(10.26) Severe Torture have just released a 2 track EP on iTunes. Entitled "Sworn Vengeance EP", this download-only release contains the previously unreleased, non-album track 'Disembowel', which is only available on this EP along with the song 'Dismal Perception', taken from their upcoming album which should be out in 2 weeks.

(10.25) Satariel have parted ways with guitarist Mikael Granqvist. According to the band, Granqvist made the decision to leave the band because he no longer felt inspired to keep playing the guitar. They already have a replacement who has yet to be named.
(10.24) Deranged have pushed back the projected release date of their seventh full-length album, "The Redlight Murder Case", to February 2008 from the previously announced November 26 2007.
(10.24) Tool will issue a DVD called "Vicarious" on December 18.
(10.24) Exhale is writing music for their new record. They may already have started recording.
(10.24) A year after Brutus' drummer committed suicide, the band had this to say about their future: "Also, we've been getting a lot of question's about the future of Brutus lately (we do show our ugly mugs at concerts from time to time:) and here's the deal: Brutus will return, after being off the stages for almost 2 years. We're still contemplating just when.. where.. in which form, but the bottomline is, we'll be coming back STRONG! and by that i mean murgwebeukt will enrich your livin' room with 60 minutes of non stop blastbeats, tight.. stomach twisting riffing, the sickest lyrical theme ever, and more vocals than you can handle!"

No new song is complete yet, but im working on at least 7 different ones right now, and 4 of them should be finished pretty soon. i have found some new colours and flavours that doesent appear on cab/noc. and i try to avoid old formulas as much as possible. so it want be a noctambulant 2 or cabinet 2. i have put a deadline for the writing process so it want take forever hehe. but i cant give you an estimated releasedate yet. because a lot of other things has to be solved first."

(10.23) The new Gorgasm CD will be called "Destined to Violate", it should be out in 2008. Mike Flores of Origin has joined the band as their new bass player.

(10.22) Lust Of Decay is currently on Hiatus. Says the band: "Lust of Decay is currently inactive. At this time we are without a drummer or bassist... just the two original founders remain, Jay (vocals) and Steve (guitars). We plan to search for a new drummer, probably in early 2008 and with any luck we will return with some new material and get back to playing live again."
(10.22) Soul Reaper is officially dead, all of it's members have moved on to other bands.
(10.22) Saprogenic has been on Hiatus since early this year, and expect to be so for awhile longer. However, they say they are NOT breaking up, and will definitely be back one day soon.
(10.22) Gutted have called it quits. Here's the official statement: "Gutted is over!!! After 11 years of working the band has decided to end this story forever! We would like to say an Extra Big Thanks to Everyone who supported and helped us during our „carrier” ! Especially to our Fans!!! Without you we were not able to do it!!!! Thanks!!! (10.15) Carcass will be performing in next year's Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany. The band will be the original lineup, even drummer Ken Owen will play a song or two, but current Arch Enemy drummer Daniel Erlandsson will fill in for the rest (those who don't know the history, Ken suffered a brain hemorrhage in 1999 and cannot physically play a whole set anymore).
(10.15) Malevolent Creation have recruited drummer Fabian Aguirre (Synapticide, ex-Grindcrusher, Misty Fate, Angel Negro) as the replacement for the recently departed Dave Culross.
(10.15) Through The Eyes Of The Dead has announced the departure of guitarist Chris Anderson. The band has recruited temporary guitarist and original member of the band Richard Turbeville, for the band's upcoming run this fall.
(10.15) Aborted are working on a new album, they hope to record in early 2008 for a summer release.
(10.15) The Dethklok album sold 34,000 units in it's first week for a Billboard chart position of 21, and Arch Enemy sold 8,900 units of its new album for a chart position of 84.
(10.15) Go here to see Vader perform the new song "Sword of the Witcher" on September 27, 2007 in Warsaw, Poland. The quality is ok, but not great. Vader's new DVD, "And Blood Was Shed In Warsaw", has had its North American release date pushed back to November 20 via MVD. It will be made available in Europe on October 15 in Europe through Metal Mind Productions. The DVD will be also available in a special DVD+CD limited swing case edition.
(10.15) Drummer Dave Culross will do the drumming duties for the new Disincarnate album (The band formed by James Murphy).
(10.15) Coldworker are writing songs for a new album, they will record in December for a spring 2008 release. They already have 13 new songs.
(10.15) The Deftones are currently writing their 6th studio album.
(10.15) Nine Inch Nails has left Interscope records. Trent is writing music for a new album, and will decide how to release and market it once the album is complete.
(10.15) Unmerciful will enter the studio in the spring of 2008 to record their next full-length effort, entitled "Pummeled Out Of Existence", for a summer release.
(10.15) Decrepit Birth will release their second album, "Diminishing between Worlds", on January 28, 2008 via Unique Leader Records.
(10.15) Project: Failing Flesh have started working on their 3rd album. They have written 9 songs so far.
(10.15) Aeon has ejected drummer Nils Fjellström from the band. He recently joined Dark Funeral, and could not spend the time necessary to tour with Aeon. The band is currently seeking a new drummer.
(10.15) Benediction are going into the studio on November 21 to finally record their new album "Killing Music". It will be released at the end of March 2008

(10.14) Paul Bostaph (Exodus, Slayer) will perform the drums on the new Testament album. Unfortunately Nick Barker will not be recording with the band due to Homeland Security and International Work Visa issues. The album is scheduled for next spring.

He's the temporary replacement for regular bassist Adam Duce, who was forced to sit out the upcoming trek after suffering a broken leg while dirt biking in Redding, CA. Initially thought to be nothing more than a bad sprain, x-rays later confirmed the break, which required surgery to attach a steel plate and two screws to the broken bone.
(09.02) Arsis has announced the departure of vocalist Mike Parks, who had been filling in for guitarist/singer James Malone on vocals. This is what bassist Noah Martin had to say: "When James' voice went out a couple tours ago, Mike did us the biggest favor by filling in for as long as he did. I know I speak for everyone in ARSIS when I say we couldn't imagine anyone else doing a better job. However, we felt that with the new album right around the corner, we needed to move on with ARSIS in the ARSIS way — with James back on vocals. We wish him nothing but the best, as we'll always be friends."

(06.14) Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor will be working with Anthrax on their new album, replacing vocalist Joey Belladonna. However, he has stated he is not the new permanent singer (yet), he wants to see how things go.
(06.14) Dream Theater celebrated the 15-year anniversary of its classic 1992 album "Images and Words" by performing the LP in its entirety on Day Two of the Gods Of Metal Festival on Sunday, June 3 in Italy. Hopefully it will come out as a bootleg on Ytsejam Records.

(06.14) Drummer Gene Hoglan's first instructional DVD will be called "The Atomic Clock" and will be out in July from his website. Gene has also recently participated in the Dethklok project, an album of tunes based on the cartoon series on Adult Swim. The album will be out Sept 25th, and there may be a tour afterwards.

Apparently none of these were included in order to make the CD more "eco-friendly", but I personally think that's crap, because the packaging for a CD is not a throw away item, it's something you keep as part of your collection forever, and so in the same way you wouldn't choose to not print a book because you don't want to use up the paper, you shouldn't skimp on a CD booklet either. "Black Rain" sold 152,000 copies in the United States during its first week of release to hit number 3 on the billboard.

(05.14) Unearth has fired their drummer Mike Justian. Here's the statement from the band: "Last night [Thursday, May 10] marked the end of the line for UNEARTH. There are many reasons why we decided it was time to move on without him, but we are not in the business of airing dirty laundry. We will say that we grew apart as individuals and as musicians and the split will be best for both the band and Mike." Gene Hoglan of Strapping Young Lad fame will be filling in for the rest of the tour.
(05.14) Allen West (guitar) of Obituary has been incarcerated for unknown charges. He will be released in Feb of 2008. Meanwhile, the band will finish recording their new album, release it, and tour. However, they state Allen is still a member of the band, and they'll work things out once he's released.
